Levi Ones To Watch – Los Campesinos – Glasgow Art School

THREE of the most exciting bands roaming the indie plains united for the highly anticipated Shred Yr Face tour at the Glasgow school of art.
Hailing from Cardiff, Los Campesinos joined No Age and Time New Viking in the Glasgow end of the tour which was held in conjunction with the Tennents Mutual.

Los Campesinos are crammed right in the middle of the three bands and have the chance to showcase songs from new album We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed. The seven piece indie-pop band must surely be use to cramming themselves on small stages by now and believe me the art school is no different.

Los Camp only just released We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed a mere five months after their début offering Hold on Now Youngster and many have dubbed it more a “serious” album.
The set is a pretty healthy mix of the two albums, most of the crowd only know the hits but are still able to get into the lesser know songs.
It’s no surprise my year in lists and You! Me! Dancing! get the biggest reaction from the crowd.
Although promisingly enough for Los Camp, new single We are beautiful, we are doomed gets a pretty good response.

Lead vocalist Gareth doesn’t have the swarthy charm that most front men enjoy, and looks more like a disorientated art student. However his aimless jumping around and geeky motive is entertaining enough, and is perhaps the reason he can get away with singing in a thicker English accent than he actually possesses. The rest of the band sit behind the drums, guitar, bass, xylophone, violin…..whatever, they keep up with the tempo of the emphatic Gareth well enough.

Sweet Dreams Sweet Cheeks makes for a pleasant closer, which involves most of the crowd singing the last line “one blink for yes, two blinks for no, Sweet Dreams Sweet Cheeks, we need to know”.
A good performance, maybe next time they’ll even get to headline.
