Paul Weller is issued with official warning

After flouting the smoking ban on stage last Saturday, Paul Weller's actions have resulted in an official warning.

While playing The Cliffs Pavilion venue in Southend, Weller lit up during a gig. The bosses of the venue have now been warned that if any other artists try the same thing then serious action will follow.

“We think the law was breached so we have issued a warning,” said Steve Ramm of Southend Borough Council. “We considered the matter but under the terms of our enforcement policy, we have issued the warning to Southend Theatres Limited at this stage.

“If a similar occurrence were to take place in future, we would be likely to take further action.”
