A perfume company is suing Prince and his publishers, Universal Music Publishing, claiming the singer and company failed to fulfill promotional commitments to help them sell a fragrance released using the '3121' name of Prince's 2006 album.
New York-based Revelations Perfume And Cosmetics Inc say they licensed the rights to use the name, and Prince's likeness, on a perfume product. In a deal seemingly brokered by Universal, they agreed to pay the music firm and singer half the net profits from the sale of the fragrance.
In their lawsuit, Revelations claim they invested $2.5 million in the project, but Prince failed to participate in various promotional campaigns for it, and as a result the project failed.
Neither Prince nor Universal have commented on the lawsuit.
