I’ve no idea who ‘Jake Summers’ is but all hail him for being not only ‘……The Man’ (according to the band) but more importantly the inspiration for this truly magnificent song. The song is instantly adorable, from its bass-heavy intro to it’s Debbie Harry inspired vocals, which not only ooze sex and charisma by the bag full but also possess a heavenly sense of melody seldom heard. The chorus is wonderfully uplifting where lead singer Maykay yelps ‘That’s not nice he said, that’s not nice, what you did to me’ over a glorious synth build up; a tune with great hooks, an eclectic arrangement, fantastic vocals and genre defining quirkiness.
The b-sides are also well worth a listen, the instrumental ‘Corey Pop’ and the slower groove ‘Snore Bore Whore’ are more fine examples of great infectious synth led pop with masses of charismsa, energy and style.
