Red Painted Red – Preach EP

Manchester based ambient artists Red Painted Red follow up their previous EP release ‘Pathway’ with another set of 4 decent tracks.

Part of a promised trilogy of EPs, this second part comes packaged like before in a very a designed case incorporating a childlike artistic design on textured paper. This is making for collectors item material.

The music itself is a progression from the ‘Pathway’ EP. That release was very dissolute in tone and possibly even in its execution, whereas ‘Preach’ takes on a more religious feel to it (hence the title). The Gloom and doom of it all is still intact, but the songs are far more structured than before and the music far more orchestrated.

There is a constant sadness to their sound. Melancholy is only the beginning, but that isn’t to say that it is a depressing experience to hear ‘Red painted Red.’ The interlaced samples of music can be quite beautiful, without ever being pretentiously artistic.

It will be worth the wait to see what they do with the third and final part of this mini saga next year.
