According to reports, Amy Winehouse has met with lawyers to arrange a divorce from her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. The singer, as previously reported, was rumoured to be determined to bring the marriage to an end following Fielder-Civil's early release from prison.
It sounds like it's Winehouse that is the proactive one in seeking the divorce, but Fielder-Civil has reportedly been saying he's going to let her go, because he's a bad influence on her. He told the News Of The World that he had introduced her to various drugs, and taken her down a road “she would never have gone down” without him. The tabloid quote him as saying: “Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love”.
He continues: “I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty. The first time Amy took crack she asked me, 'Can I try a bit of that'. Crack is the nastiest drug. It makes you paranoid, unreasonable, edgy and totally suspicious of everyone. And you can get hooked on it straight away. But I was weak and an addict and I let Amy take some. I didn't stop it from happening. For that I take full responsibility. It became something we did as well as heroin. And then our lives fell apart”.
Fielder-Civil is, of course, presently in rehab, under the conditions of his early release.
