People In Planes Tour

After touring the US this Autumn with fellow countrymen, The Stereophonics and shows with Filter and The Toadies, Welsh rockers People In Planes have announced a long awaited tour across the UK to preview their album BEYOND THE HORIZON which is due for release in the UK in 2009 through Wind-up Records.

Gareth Jones (vocals), Peter Roberts (guitar), Kris Blight (bass), John Maloney (drums) and Ian Russell (keyboard) worked with four producers in seven studios throughout the US, England and Wales to create Beyond the Horizon. The majority of the work on the final project came from Doves/Massive Attack producer Dan Austin. Other producers included Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida, Queens Of The Stone Age collaborators 'Eleven,' and Panic At The Disco producer Matt Squire.

The quintet from Wales seem to almost be decendents of Radiohead, Supergrass and Super Furry Animals. People in Planes fuel the melodic alt-rock scene with soaring atmospheric melodies, catchy pop hooks and powerfully fierce lyrics.

Instead of rising through the often-fickle English pop music scene, People in Planes forged their own version of a British musical invasion when they caught the ear of New York-based Wind-up Records during a transatlantic musical voyage that launched their career. Hailed by Billboard as “a burst of brilliance” — the band quickly caught American ears. Their debut US album, As Far As The Eye Can See…, which Decoy praised as “a near-flawless, jaw-dropping piece of modern rock,” seen the band tour relentlessly around the US with a variety of acts slowly building a fanbase and profile which is being further extended with the release of album No.2 which sees them finally coming home to the UK.

Songwriters Peter Roberts and Gareth Jones met in primary school (famously by one accidentally smashing a tennis ball into the others face) and a friendship as well as a potent creative collaboration was born. In their early teens, the pair were entranced by the first Supergrass album, I Should Coco, and resolved to forge their own path into making music by forming a band. “They were not too dissimilar to us in age, so we could really relate to what they were doing,” says Jones. “The first seeds of what we became were sown by that record,” adds Roberts.
