Grammy Nominees Announced

The Grammy nominations are out, and it's the ubiquitous Lil Wayne who is up for the most awards this year. He's nominated for eight gongs in total, including Album Of The Year for his best selling 'Tha Carter III'. Not far behind, however, are Coldplay, with seven nods, who are also up for the best album award for their recent record 'Viva La Vida'. Kanye West, Jay-Z and Ne-Yo are all up for six awards.

Ne-Yo's 'Year Of The Gentleman' is also in the running for the Album Of The Year award, as is Radiohead's 'In Rainbows', and the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration 'Raising Sand'. The nominees for record of the year are Coldplay, with 'Vida La Vida', the aforementioned Plant and Krauss with 'Please Read The Letter', Leona Lewis with 'Bleeding Love', Adele with 'Chasing Pavement' and MIA with 'Paper Planes'.

Other British nominees include Duffy, nominated in the newcomer category alongside the likes of Adele and The Jonas Brothers, Rufus Wainwright, and Neil Young.

The nominations were announced for the first time via a special live concert on US TV network CBS, which featured performances from Celine Dion and Christina Aguilera, apparently in a bid to make The Grammys stand out a bit from all the other millions of awards shows, after the viewing figures for last year's show were disappointing. The actual awards take place on 8 Feb.
