Filly - Instantly Out Of Control
Album Review

Filly – Instantly Out Of Control

This second release from Filly’s debut album ‘Sliideshow’ is a competent, urban pop by-the-numbers track that showcases the young lady’s sassy vocals, but unfortunately surrounds them with some particularly generic r ‘n’ b grooves in the background.

‘Instantly Out Of Control’ isn’t the worst soulful pop ditty you’ll come across, and the chorus will undeniably stick in your head for a short while after listening, but other than that, it’s fairly disposable stuff. Filly exclaims in the track ‘Don’t you think that it’s insane how I slow it down, speed it up again’. Unfortunately for Filly, it’s hard to agree. The samey drum machine samples that drive the song along do occasionally get a touch faster and then slow down again, but this is hardly groundbreaking stuff. When your claim to originality seemingly revolves around a randomly increasing tempo, you know you’re hardly about to revolutionise music.

Slick and polished, this track will quite possibly do well with the right marketing and sufficient airplay, but that doesn’t hide the fact that it’s so utterly formulaic, that the song’s title soon seems bitterly ironic.
