M83 – We Own The Sky

M83, aka Anthony Gonsalez, delivers an ethereal and atmospheric anthem with this impressive piece of shoegazing electronica.
The group’s sound combines a slow reverberating rhythm driven forward by keyboards complete with softly spoken lyrics over the top, the consequent effect is somewhere between French legends Air and 80’s synth-pop acts like Cocteau Twins or even at times Depeche Mode. The chilled out bliss of ‘We Own The Sky’ is truly impressive at times, as its eerie vocals encircle and engulf the song lodging it firmly in the listeners head.

The track will definitely not be to all tastes, it is sluggish at times and focuses primarily on mood and atmosphere rather than an anthemic chorus or pounding beat, but nevertheless, it is still a perfect tune to wind down to after a wild night out. The band have supported Kings of Leon this year, and will support The Killers next year and with such contemporary rock titans as fans, it won’t be long until M83 bring their electric stylings to a much wider audience.
