Irish Acts Join Kate Winslet In LA

There's a rock 'n' roll soundtrack to this year's Oscar Wilde: Honoring The Irish In Film event.

Gemma Hayes, Laura Izibor and Republic Of Loose provide the musical entertainment at the fourth annual Oscar Wilde: Honoring The Irish In Film night, which takes place in LA on February 19.

Among those being celebrated at the gala event are Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Hylda Queally, the Clare-born agent who looks after the likes of Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz, Michelle Williams, Simon Pegg and Golden Globe-winner Kate Winslet who’ll be presenting her with her gong.

“This event was created to provide an opportunity for people in the Irish and US film industries to meet, in hopes that collaborations would come of it,” notes Eugene Downes, CEO of Culture Ireland. “Music is often an integral part of films and if it also brings attention to promising Irish singers and songwriters, all the better.”

In past years appearing at the bash has snared Paddy Casey and SJ McCardle Stateside deals, and Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova an invite to appear on The Simpsons from the show’s Jim Brooks.
