Eighth Day Army – Holy Genocide EP

The opening track Holy Genocide (Never Felt So Good) builds into quite generic metal rhythms, the mix of falsetto vocals with the usual deep ones is quite interesting, but unfortunately doesn’t seem to last long, the long guitar breaks seem to be missing something to make them stand out in any way.

This is followed by While I Fall You Breathe, which is dominated by the higher vocals, but these lack any strength, so the song lacks the power that it feels like it should have had. At the end of this track it develops into a completely different tune, which confused me, rather than providing a bridge to the next track as you might expect.

Finally Empress is a mixture of different styles, although there is a nice piece of instrumental piano towards the end. If you like metal bands that are a little experimental then you should enjoy this.
