Last night saw the prestigious 51st Grammy Awards take place. Us Brits didn't do half bad with Coldplay picking up three awards-including Best Rock Album (does somebody wanna define rock for me?). Other Brits picking up gongs included Adele, for best pop vocal performance and best new artist. Whilst Duffy collected best pop vocal album and Radiohead won best alternative music album.
The Grammy Awards show consists of over a billion categories, now, I haven't got time to list all of these for you but they do include categories such as Best Blugrass Album, Best New age Album and Best Album Notes. At least the Grammys can't be accused of not being thorough.
Other winners included, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss who swept the board with five awards, winning record of the year and album of the year. Lil Wayne was nominated in eight categories, winning four awards including, best rap album and best rap performance by a duo or group. Kings Of Leon, Metallica, Alicia Keys, Al Green and Estelle all walked away winners.
All award shows lend themselves to exciting music collaborations and the Grammys was no exception. Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney performed 'I Saw Her Standing There' and Stevie Wonder performed with The Jonas Brothers. Ok, when I said exciting I meant strange – Stevie Wonder with The Jonas Brothers?
Chris Brown was nominated for an award and scheduled to perform. However, according to reports he pulled out after it was revealed he had been involved in an
'incident of domestic violence battery' but had been released on bail after turning himself in. Rihanna (Chris' girlfriend) also pulled out of the ceremony after being scheduled to perform.
Probably the most exciting part of the night came from Blink 182. After presenting the award for best rock album they confirmed they were back together again and making a new album -hooray!
So there you have it a whistle stop tour of last nights events.
