Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Beware
Album Review

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – Beware

There’s a sweet psychedelic feel to the new album. A strumming acoustic with a small string arrangement, backed up by a small choir of almost gospel vocalists (This of course being led by the main artist himself). The criss-cross of familiar sounds work to create something that sounds ultimately unifying. And that is just the first song.

After here the material segues in to a more sombre country sounding album. You can’t really rob the artists for doing what they must have a feel and a love for, no matter how it all might sound. It’s more a case of if they do it well and if they manage to inject enough variety in that sound itself.

It’s a thoughtful “swaying” album. And it isn’t the first in recent months, there seems to be a rebuilding of this trend in the market at the moment. It serves its purpose and isn’t likely to offend any fans of country music.
