Lily Allen Joins Bestival Line-Up

Bestival, Robin Hill Country Park, Isle Of Wight 11th, 12th & 13th September 2009

LILY ALLEN JOINS THE SPECTACULAR BESTIVAL LINE-UP AND BECOMES THIS YEAR'S FANCY DRESS JUDGE!

Having captivated the crowd at Robin Hill Country Park back in 2006, the all-conquering Lily Allen returns to Bestival for a triumphant special guest set on Saturday. With a hatful of number ones to her name as well as Mercury and Grammy award nominations, Lily’s live act is truly something to behold mixing up tongue-in-cheek taunts with deeply infectious sing-along choruses that are a gilt-edged crowd-pleasing promise.
Anyone who saw her 2006 set will know that Lily loves a bit of fancy dress, so we’re over the moon that our newest very special guest has not only agreed to sing her heart out for you but she's also agreed to a harebrained scheme that we've cooked up for all the Bestival fancy dress aficionados out there. So many of you spend so long making your outfits, having fancy dress meetings and swapping tips online that we thought Lily would make a great judge of your creations. So starting next month (April) we'll be running a monthly online competition for the best Outer Space outfits. Simply email a picture of you in your outfit to mail and we'll post the best 5 on link with Lily picking a winner each month, who’ll win a special prize and after 6 months the overall winner as judged by Lily will win a lifetime’s supply of tickets to Bestival. So get designing! We can’t wait!

To add to our dressing up delights at Bestival this year we will have Pimp My Outfit! Located in the Dressing Up Box there will be accessories galore available from our fancy dress helpers to Pimp Your Outfit – no excuse to be shabby this year!

Rob da Bank commented: 'Lily Allen chipped up at Bestival 2006 just as she was becoming massive, donned a full rabbit fancy dress outfit with massive pink ears, completely nailed the crowd and hung out all weekend having fun. So I’m delighted she's coming back to do all it again with another brilliant number one album under her belt and not only that but she's going to judge all your outfits before you even arrive in our Outer Space fancy dress comp! I've grown up with Orbital's anthems from Chime to Belfast and I cant wait to see the brothers Hartnoll DJ on the main stage and I'll be wearing my laser specs in honour. La Roux, Jack Penate, The Penguin Café and The Big Pink are all non stop on the da Bank jukebox at the moment too so I’m well pleased to be welcoming all of them to Bestival too. See ya down the front!'

You can also expect a large helping of even more magnificent musical pleasures including a very special DJ set from Orbital counting down to Kraftwerk. One of the greatest dance acts of all time, the brothers Hartnoll will be showing off their impeccable manoeuvres on the ones and twos on a blissful techno mission. There will also be electro-pop sensation La Roux, raw soul-boy Jack Penate, Camden’s finest Just Jack, Crazy P’s euphoric beats, original rock n roll pioneers Pretty Things, trance-gospel-rock from NME Philip Hall Radar Award winners The Big Pink and The Penguin Café, a tribute to the Penguin Café Orchestra put together by Arthur Jeffes the son of late PCO founder Simon Jeffes will also be making an appearance. There will also be onstage exploits from the hotly tipped Esser, Maps’ space rock, Baddies’ burly tunes, shredding guitars from Dinosaur Pile Up, camp fire punk from Frankmusik, nonsense in the dark with Filthy Dukes, Dubliners Fight Like Apes, Delphic’s baggy vibes, George Pringle’s flowing prose, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool wigging out, the lush and lovely Lucky Elephant, mayhem from They Came From The Stars I Saw Them, Man Like Me’s on point rhymes, off beat Hip-Hop from Speech Debelle Isle of Wighters The Shutes and 2020 Sound System’s rolling grooves, plus there will be performances from Coopers Rage, Cordelier Club, The Dawn Chorus, Workhouse, Rox, Wave Machines and Dent May and his good feeling ukulele music

As ever the dance tents are going to be bumping into the night with Radio 1 legend Annie Nightingale, Bloody Beetroots’ electro-punk, drum n bass dons Chase And Status, Tinchy Stryder and a superlative selection of dubsteppers including Plastician, Goldie Locks, Caspa, Coki, Joker and the Isle of Wight’s own Price from Dpr Recordings. Plus there will be Ninja Tune deity DJ Food and sets from Caged Baby, Riva Starr, DJ Dan And Propaganda, Kry Wolf, Beat Boutique, DJ Charge, Gaz's Rockin Blues, Russ Cuban, Brian Monaco (Kitchen Party) and Tim Boogaloo. The incredible Tru Thoughts label will be hosting a very special 10th birthday party too, featuring label co-founder Robert Luis on the decks with live vocals from Kinny and an acoustic set from Lizzy Parks.
