RISING stars Hitchcock count The Enemy as their biggest fans – and now the superb new outfit will step into the Coventry trio's slot at the Homecoming festival.
Hitchcock frontman Matt Droog has produced numerous Enemy tracks, including new single No Time For Tears. And Enemy frontman Tom Clarke returned the favour by helping select Hitchcock's first single, out late April.
Matt said: “It was really them who made us choose Smack Boom as the single. They played it as they came offstage at every show on the tour they've just done. “It's ironic we're filling in for them – those are big shoes to fill but we're ready. I'll enjoy texting Clarkey to tell him how it goes. “I've been working closely with The Enemy for three years so they have seen Hitchcock grow from nothing. They came to our first gig in London last year.”They have been really supportive. It's very cool – a mutual appreciation thing.”
Festival organisers booked the dance-rock-pop crossover newcomers on the recommendation of The Enemy – who had to pull out due to US commitments.
Matt and bandmate Andy Huckall – a music programmer who had US success with Apartment 26 – are not daunted by their slot near the top of the bill.
Matt said: “We're ready for a slot like this.
“We've done lots of big things – including playing main stage at Gatecrasher's Summer Sound System festival last year – and are not wet behind the ears.”
Matt has very high hopes for Hitchcock's album, released in September. He said: ” It is really picking up, the song is on radio and the video is on TV. I want to see the world – in fact I seriously want to be the first band to play in space. Honestly.
Hitchcock will play The Remix Arena on Saturday 2 May at Homecoming festival
