London’s premier festival, Lovebox , have added to their stellar 2009 line up with a second wave of artist bookings including legendary punk rockers New York Dolls, and Manchester’s epic rock-trio Doves. Acclaimed modern folk quartet Noah and the Whale will also be joining the eclectic line up which includes headliners Duran Duran, Groove Armada and N*E*R*D at Victoria Park in London on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July.
Led by pop heavyweights Duran Duran and hip-hop collective N*E*R*D, the Lovebox Saturday line-up has just got better with the addition of electrifying funk-rock outfit Gang of Four and soul diva VV Brown. Friendly Fires, Fat Freddy’s Drop and BRIT award winning Florence and the Machine will also be taking to the Saturday stage.
Doves – currently riding high with the top 5 album ‘Kingdom of Rust’ – will be joining the Sunday line up alongside festival founders Groove Armada and seminal punk rockers The New York Dolls. Renowned for their stunning acoustic covers of heavy metal classics, the acclaimed Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela will also bring their unique sound to the bill; with Noah and the Whale and electro-pop sensation Ladyhawke completing the Sunday line up.
In addition to thee musical line up, London’s most electric and eclectic show-stopping festival has expanded for 2009 with an even bigger 40 acre site that will once again be bursting at the seams, with 7 incredible stages as well as the best new acts, performers, stage sets and special effects from all over the world for what promises to be a carnival of anarchic entertainment.
Lovebox is proud to introduce the Gaymers Stage – featuring London's largest purpose-built tree house for those wanting a bird’s eye view of the festival. The stage will play host to a selection of live performances in an intimate setting.
Following four years of critical acclaim for Lovebox's infamous bespoke-built installations such as The Stockade, The Warehouse and The Downlow, comes a new concept for the 2009. Promising to incorporate a mind- bending combination of sky-high film sets and special effects, this year's dance stage will be the best yet, featuring secretsundaze and Simian Mobile Disco at the helm, plus many more…
Inspired by the double-headed llama which featured in the cult Rex Harrison movie, Doctor Doolittle, comes an extraordinary circus tent with similarly siamese set-up. The Pushmi-Pullyu will debut this year’s Lovebox and feature two stages, one at opposite ends of the tent, where both Horse Meat Disco and Disco Bloodbath will co-host the Saturday and Last FM and The Fly will take turns to host the sort of up'n'coming, cutting edge artists and a line-up that will reflect both their passionate championing of new music.
Boutique bowling hits Lovebox as All Star Lanes hosts the first ever outdoor Bowling Championship at a UK Festival. With multiple bowling lanes, delicious cocktails, the best milkshakes, classic American dining and guest DJs playing the jukebox all day – this will be one of the festival’s must-see highlights.
Festival goers will also find the Fringe Field nestled within in a peaceful clearing of trees – a weird and wonderful alternative to the rest of the festival. 21st century hoedown pioneers, Cut-A-Shine host their own barn-dancing tent with folk and acoustic sessions from the Magpie’s Nest. The Out Of the Ordinary Festival debut this year with what can only be described as a mind-bending symposium of esoteric learning on earth mysteries, crop circles, leylines and, yep – you guessed it, shamanism.
The 2009 festival will also see the welcome return of the ever-growing and incredibly popular thelondonpaper Sourced Market, the largest farmer's market of any UK festival. Traders, handpicked from Borough and other London-based farmers markets, will be selling an eclectic range of mouthwatering delights guaranteed to appeal to everyone’s taste buds.
For those in need of a spot of outdoor pampering, Lovebox is welcoming a new addition for 2009 in the shape of Heavenly Healing, a fully comprehensive tented village of massage and complimentary therapies to help you kick off your weekend in style.
From chart-topping bands to barn-storming hoedowns Lovebox offers something for everyone; so prepare to lose yourself in Victoria Park this summer as Lovebox presents this year’s dose of musical mastery and mayhem.
