Black Gold 'Detroit'

Following their six jaw-dropping shows at this year’s SxSW, Brooklyn’s Black Gold have announced news of a single which is slated for 18th May.
Black Gold consist of multi-instrumentalists Eric Ronick and Than Luu, who arrive having tested their respective wares by chalking up significant stage time on the back of shows with the likes of Ambulance Ltd , M.Ward, Panic At The Disco and Rachael Yamagata.

The single is available on limited 7” vinyl and download only, and will feature the excellent ‘Detroit’ (Shark Attack Remix) – showcasing the band’s unique talent with their glitzy, pulsating, electro stomp b/w the album version of title track on the download, and non-album B-side ‘The Picture Show’ on the 7”.

Citing inspiration from rock’s early days, the psychedelic era of the 1960’s and 70’s, not to mention contemporaries like Hot Chip, Ronick says, “No style or genre is off limits. We get a real kick out of taking from different artists, different periods, and putting our spin on it. Somehow we ended up with something cohesive and that sounds, undeniably, like us.”

Recently in the U.S., the band has supported shows for a diverse array of acts, including The Hold Steady, Polysics, Scissor Sisters, Jaguar Love, and more. SPIN Magazine described Black Gold’s sound as “breathlessly experimental,” exclaiming that “nearly every song is a potential single begging for an extended dance edit,” and Alternative Press has named them as one of the “100 Bands You Need To Know” for 2009. In addition, it was recently announced that Black Gold would be appearing at this year’s All Points West Festival in Jersey City, NJ on Saturday 1st August.

Black Gold with be performing at this year’s Camden Crawl on Saturday 25th April, as well as playing their own show at the Old Blue Last on Wednesday 29th April.

Meanwhile ‘Rush’ the band’s forthcoming debut album will be released later in the year.
