Depeche Mode - Wrong
Album Review

Depeche Mode – Wrong

My initial response to this first single from Depeche Mode’s new “Sounds of the Universe” album was met with heavy reserve. I wasn’t by any means expecting the material to be bad. But after hearing albums this year from so many acts that had been around since a similar era (The cure, Morrissey) and been ultimately let down, even if ever so slightly – This new track had a lot to live up to in my imagination. And ultimately there was no way it was going to win, and it didn’t.

But time heals all wounds, and now that the song has had time to mellow in the brain it’s safe to now say that “Wrong” is a decent enough track. It is still not as strong a contender as some of the singles from even their last album, and having heard the new album there is by far a whole array of stronger material on there, and even some very commercial friendly tunes. “Wrong” still presents a hard enough stamp what is yet to come. The electronics have be stripped back to basics, the beat is fairly basic in itself as well – thanks to the strong vocals of their lead man the song is elevated that much more than if handled by a lesser professional.
