The EDITORS are named in big bold letters on the cover of this album, under which is the word “PRESENTS.” So not a new Editors album, but rather them presenting to us: Mobius Band.
If it all sounds a bit done that’s because this album was released a year ago in the US. So this can be something of a reflective review.
Time can date material very quickly the current fads and trends that surround us. Ok it’s only been two years. But just look at how many similar bands there are out there. The ones that stand out are either the big boys who made their stake in the ground a while back and are riding that success still, or it is bands who actually change something and it catches out attention. Mobius Band are neither of these at the moment. As the material, as mentioned above, does sound done before.
The material itself isn’t bad, just lacking in the full imagination that brings so many others to the surface. And perhaps the “Editors” tag on the sleeve is suspicious for many a reason. The day that bands require the seal of approval of other bands names in the commercial world then it all starts to crash down. Now I have a tainted view of the Editors, or their label anyway.
