The Do – A Mouthful

As everything nowadays seems to be an Alternative form of music (despite the fact that is all sounds so damn similar) – let me now introduce you to a band who are an “Alternative” to the “Alternative” acts out there. But that is not to say that their music is straight laced, it is quite different, just different from all the other different bands out there.

Ahem! “The Do,” is a Paris based duo, and their album of 15 tracks is an interesting CD. Named after the start/end note of the musical scale, this funky duo come from a classical and jazz background. Given a sway to their eclectic style both music and vocals go to work beautifully.

It may seem like a band who are stuck in the past with a strong line of psychedelic songs, but there are all sorts of interesting twists and turns that take them out of hippie-dom and into gypsy land, fairy tale, the RnB fanfare of “Queen Dot Kong” and even the worldly rhythms of “Unissasi Laulelet.”

With 15 tracks to breeze through you hope that a band will be more than one note, and The Do manage to file the entire scale, whilst at the same time solidly instilling their sound to appreciators.
