Once again Britain’s Got Talent is sweeping he nation. This week plays witness to the semi finals where all the “talent” are being whittled down into finalists. Now, I’ve got to admit I find even the thought of sitting through that programme excruciating , but curiosity did get the better of me and although I was watching Desperate Housewives I couldn’t resist flicking over to Britain’s Got talent during the adverts. Big mistake. I’ve got to admit I was right the first time it was excruciating. I missed the first couple of acts but tuned in just in time for the Darth Vader/ Michael Jackson act, if that is all the talent Britain has I’d be worried. The other act I happened to catch was the two fit guys dancing whilst wearing different celebrity masks. All I can say to that is… Hello Sailor! Obviously, they should have won as they were fit, had six packs and made me drool. I didn’t catch the results part, but I believe a group of dancers got through and surprise, surprise Susan Boyle.
What I do think is awful is the little ten year old girl, who originally sang an Alicia Key’s song in the auditions but then switched to Jamelia’s ‘Superstar’ in the semi’s. Unfortunately, she didn’t get through and was really upset, but it begs the question shouldn’t there be an age limit. Is it right to be putting a child in a competition where they could get voted off on national television? Surely the poor kid is going to be upset over that, can children really handle that kind of rejection? Also, is it right to have people like the Jackson tribute on who are obviously shit and people are making fun of? It just all seems a bit cruel to me. Also I’ve seen in the newspapers that there is a stripper/burlesque dancer on this show – oh dear! Firstly, how is that talent? Anyone can whip their nips out and secondly, I thought it was meant to be family entertainment! If anyone I knew even contemplated going on that show I’d disown them. Although, I suppose it is worth going on just to meet Ant ‘n’ Dec- hubba hubba.
