We were Ghosts presents 11 songs of fairly straight forward funky indie music.
The tone veers from optimistic jive to crashing emotional. The band doesn’t have many quieter moments, but when the first comes along in part of “Drop D, Not Bombs” it’s fairly inspirational. Although this soothing melody builds to great disconcert, the effectiveness of the music writing really takes hold and becomes ultimately very relevant of its theme, despite the lack of vocals. But then sometimes music works better when it’s just music.
There are other flourishes of inspiration out of the ordinary emotive rock. The female vocalist does sterling work giving the band a greater edge to their music. For this genre of music as full a range as possible is always useful when making an impression. The telegraphs just about pull that off with this interesting and sometimes quirky album.
