Taken from the St Albans trance metal troubadours’ forthcoming album ‘Common Dreads’, this kicks off with a frantic chorus of synth arpeggios and thrashy drums before even getting to the first verse. They calm things down a bit here, with a Streets style blokey rap over some strings lulling you into a false sense of security before smacking you upside of the head with that chorus again.
Ok, it has a tried and tested fast/slow/fast/slow feel to it, but it’s done with so much vim and vigour that you don’t care.
Although vocalist Rou Reynolds sounds a bit like Mike Skinner, the comparison ends as soon as he launches into his trademark yelps and shrieks. Things are helped by the fact that his voice sounds ragged and blown out, like he’s on his 200th take.
Erratic and energetic, this is recommended listening.
