Smoke Fairies – Frozen Heart EP

Chichester’s Smoke Fairies have an impressive array of touring accolades behind them. Having supported Bryan Ferry and played the Royal Festival Hall twice is no small feat.

Seamlessly blending together the sounds of traditional English folk and Deep South blues, these songs make it seem that the two were separated at birth.

The ethereal vocals of the tracks found here are haunting in a beautiful way. Coupling such voices with blues guitar only enhances the experience.
The standout tracks of the five found on the EP are “Fences” and closer, “He’s Moving On”. The former a lilting yet mournful which perfectly represents this effort, the latter encompassing the blusier element of the ‘Fairies, with wonderful results.
All of the songs that would sit comfortably alongside any tracks of Isobell Campbell & Mark Lanegans’s Mercury shortlisted “Ballad of the Broken Seas”, which can be nothing but a good thing.
