Vincent Black Lightning – Songs From The Underbelly – Part 1

It seems pretty evident by this recording that at some point someone was probably a fan of the more lively Simon and Garfunkel material. Lively is probably the best word to use here. There are some very active and melodious guitar riffs and a bouncy Bass keep proceedings in this retro sounding album up to standards.

A whispery, mumbling vocalist rounds out the retro feel. But happily there are switches in tone in the music as the album progresses (It does go a bit country in the song “Ride”).

The only time the vocals really hit a bit of attitude though is late in the game with “The Biz” which is nice, but just a shame that over 10 tracks were wasted on whiney musings. “No limit” which follows after is also impressive for ranging their style.
