‘On/off/safety/danger’ is the first foray into the universe of albums from Birdpen after some success in the EP spectrosphere.
Opener ‘Breaking Precedent’ doesn’t really set one for the album to follow, an upbeat alt-rocker of high quality that is a stand out effort. On from there Birdpen don’t appear to have their jolly hats on and spiral into the land introspection and brooding rumblers.
There are some stand out moments, the changing paces of ‘Admiral Red’ startles, and ‘Machines Live Like Ordinary People’ see the band enter the industrial zone with a severe case of techno phobia. While some of the moodier number may pass you by without some involvement of your own, there is definitely something here worth checking out.
