The sad news of Michael Jackson’s death has dominated the media for the past two and a half weeks. With MTV playing back to back Jacko hits, papers and magazines whipping up conspiracy theories about his death and magazines tributes -which even included Smash Hits coming out of retirement for one special Jackson filled edition. Then there was the heart wrenching memorial service, at which I cried so much if you hadn’t of known better you would think I actually knew him personally. And with Michael Jackson’s greatest hits playing on everyone’s iPod (well it is on the bus I get) and me devoting every spare minute to learning the dance to ‘Beat It’, you could be forgiven for thinking nothing else is happening in the world. Yes we are all living in a Michael Jackson bubble at the moment, obviously it is really sad that he’s died there’s no doubt about that. But let’s have a quick update on what else has been going on….
Well, first and foremost Jordan had a miscarriage and still managed to run a marathon- very brave. Yeah, I know this is in no way music related; well it kind of is if I mention Peter Andre. Kanye West & Mr Hudson are releasing a song entitled ‘Supernova’, which is absolutely brilliant. Then iTunes told me it’s not released till the 19th July – what a tease! Also, The Ghost Of A Thousand is the best band around at the minute. I came to this decision after being absolutely blown away at their gig last week. Lady GaGa’s been causing a commotion by showing us all her lady bits but yet covering her face with some bizarre ‘gimp mask’ – the mind boggles. Finally, in case it slipped anyone’s attention it’s summer which means there are about a thousand trillion million (technical term) festivals happening. This weekend saw Scotland’s finest festival T In The Park take place which hosted performances by Tennessee hotties Kings Of Leon, Blur – who said it was their “last gig”, The Killers, James, Nine Inch Nails, Janes Addiction, Katy Perry and many more. Don't forget the next festival to take place is Latitude happening this weekend.
Ok, that’s enough of the rest of the world of music. I’m going back to practising the ‘Beat It’ dance, while you check out the rest of the website…
As well as all the latest news, reviews and music videos, there is a live review of BEST band around The Ghost Of A Thousand and their gig at Masque, Liverpool. There’s also the video for ‘Baptized By Fire’, which is the first single from Brody Dalle’s amazing new band Spinnerette. We have upcoming interviews with Latitude and Creamfield acts – so watch out for those. Finally, make sure you don’t miss out on the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster Tour, which only has three more dates left.
