Having just appeared at the Reading and Leeds festivals amongst a smattering of other UK gigs. this sees the New York four piece in fine fettle.
Checking out the bands website, this single was taken from their eponymous debut album released last June. Considering there was much speculation over the pond that they would be the object of a huge bidding war between record labels, the timing of this release seems a teensy bit tardy.
This gets into it’s groove from the off. A straight four-on-the-floor beat and an irresistible guitar riff leads in to a verse faintly reminiscent of the Super Furry Animals. Donald Cumming’s swaggering vocals make up for the fact that there’s not much of a melody to speak of, and at under three minutes it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. You won’t find anything flash or cutting edge here – just a straightforward, catchy pop song, which is no bad thing.
