BEATLE ARTWORK was in abundance last week. The BEATLES DAY FOUNDATION arranged a Children’s Artwork Competition as part of their initiative to celebrate the legacy of the Beatles and their music with a new generation of children.
The competition entries were on display in Clayton Square Shopping Centre, Liverpool last week and the public voted by secret ballot for their favourite. The winner, with a wonderfully psychedelic medley of images inspired by the Beatles’s song lyrics (pictured here) was Holly Bushnell, age 14, from Formby High School.
Holly won 4 tickets for the Beatles Day concert at the Liverpool Arena and also 4 tickets for many of the events taking place during Beatle Week in August worth £280 (kindly donated by Cavern City Tours). The runner up was Lauren Roberts, age 13 from Liverpool who receives a book signed by Julia Baird and some Beatles Day merchandise. The winning artworks will also be used in publicity for next year’s events.
Julia Baird, a trustee of the Beatles Day Foundation and John Lennon’s sister enthused “We received entries from all age groups. They were all so creative and imaginative and Holly’s entry was no exception. I’m sure she’ll be a talented artist to look out for in the future!”
Another artwork was being created on Beatles Day itself in Cavern Walks by artist Andy Prior. Andy created a new contemporary portrait of the Fab Four as shoppers in the designer boutique centre looked on in amazement. Andy also famously created a Roger Waters portrait for his performance last year.
You can still donate to Beatles Day or buy merchandise online by visiting link. The organisers have some plans up there sleeve to raise more money before next year including the auction of many instruments and memorabilia signed by various artists including James Morrison, McFly, Ian Broudie, the Wombats and Dave McCabe from the Zutons amongst others.
