Joshua Radin New Album Simple Times – 10 August

“Exquisitely forlorn confessionals” – The Guardian

14th Floor Records are to release Joshua Radin’s new album Simple Times in the UK on 10 August in conjunction with the single ‘One of Those Days’. Produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck), Simple Times’ lo-fi intimacy and Radin’s hushed fragile vocals have led the album to become a true word-of-mouth sensation.

Five thousand copies of Simple Times have already been sold in the UK through iTunes alone with, until now, no exposure, record company or promotional team. In the US, Radin (a former artist and screenwriter) became the first signing to Mom & Pop, an independent label run by Q Prime Management (Muse, Metalica, The Mars Volta). The album has sold over 250,000 copies out of the label’s offices.

In support of the UK release of Simple Times, Radin will play a six date tour of the UK, commencing at Sheffield’s o2 Academy 2 on July 13 and including a very special show at Madame Jojo’s Oh Inverted World on Thursday, July 23. The dates follow an entirely sold-out European tour earlier this year, which included London’s Shepherds Bush Empire and performances to over 1000 people in Berlin and Stockholm, again all without the album’s actual physical release.

July live dates:

Wed, July 22 Oxford o2 Academy 2

Thur, July 23 London Madame Jojo’s

Cleveland-born Joshua Radin started out in New York trying to carve out a career as a painter and screenwriter, before performing at open mic nights – earning his reputation at the Bitter End and the Knitting Factory. When friend and actor/filmmaker Zach Braff heard a demo of Radin’s song ‘Winter’, he placed it on the hit show Scrubs. Four more songs were later used on the show and Braff directed and appeared in Radin’s first promo – Radin returning the favour and appearing in Braff’s movie Garden State.

Radin’s 2006 debut We Were Here soon followed, as did tours with Tori Amos and Imogen Heap. Following a series of demos recorded with the legendary Rick Rubin, Schnapf stepped forward to produce the follow-up Simple Times. Radin’s previous employment as a screenwriter gives the album a subtle cinematic quality that has subsequently proven irresistible to programme makers and movie directors. Radin’s breathy whisper of a voice and wistful melodies can be found throughout, from the optimism of ‘Brand New Day’, through to the beautiful and poignant ‘I’d Rather Be With You’.
