Post-punk’s not dead. Screaming Light are the latest young band to follow their early 80s influences. Rather than the usual fair of Joy Division derived drivel, these young Scousers combine the psychedelic sound of the era, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Teardrop Explodes, into the equation.
The opening bass of Volts is undeniably Hooky, and the rest of the track builds on the solid foundation it lays. The vocals, particularly of Hello tomorrow, have an almost Brian Molko-like quality.
Having supported The Killers, and set to play V and the Reading & Leeds festivals this summer, these boys may well have enough of a different sound to set them apart from the likes of The Editors et al.
