Spectrum 7 – Blue Wray

A high-pitch synth line collides with a hectic rhythm section and rushes along accompanied by trebly, metallic riffage in a promising intro to this debut from Camberley indielectro types Spectrum 7, it’s a promise that’s held up by frontman Jason Mirchandani’s sterling vocal work, waily emo’d up melodies over the stacatto guitar of the opening verse. There’s a chorus too, and it’s gently thrilling with its impassioned harmony; not wanting for big hooks, this one. They know how to apply the keys tastefully, the synth embellishing, rather than smothering, a tight hard rock sound – there’s no doubting that the guitar wears the trousers in this marriage: it’s a track fuelled by killer riffs in relentless succession. All in all, it’s is a focused, polished effort that’s bristling with potential.
