Win Chance To DJ At The Big Chill Festival

Sailor Jerry rum are launching an exciting new competition, giving one lucky music aficionado the chance to take to the decks to rock the Big Chill crowd. Following participation at some of the coolest events in the UK musical calendar, including the Kerrang Awards and the Camden Crawl, Sailor Jerry rum continues this tradition with Sailor Jerry Mix Legend at the Big Chill festival this summer.

Music enthusiasts will have the chance to win their place behind the decks by submitting their dream playlists on Last.fm, the leading social music recommendation site. Aficionados can enter their ideal festival track list to rock the tent here – link. The winner will have the unique opportunity to join the list of performers and take over the musical duties in the Sailor Jerry rum bar.

The Big Chill festival, held in the Malvern Hills from 6th to 9th August, celebrates the best and most cutting edge in music, art and film, and is one of the coolest events of the summer. The legendary rum brand will be hosting a full line-up of DJ talent at the Sailor Jerry rum bar alongside the stellar line-up of acts that have already been announced. Basement Jaxx, Friendly Fires, Noah and the Whale, Spiritualized, Orbital, James Yuill, Emmy The Great, Amadou and Mariam, Norman Jay, Keb Darge and British Sea Power have already signed up to perform.

The Sailor Jerry stage has a wealth of entertaining acts including esteemed DJ Don Letts, credited with single handedly turning a whole generation of punks onto reggae, with his animated style sure to keep the rum bar rocking. Also lined up to play the Sailor Jerry rum bar is DJ Derek, the cardigan-wearing ale-drinking legend and purveyor of sweet reggae music and Bristol Hi-Fi, the team responsible for bringing smooth reggae bass lines and hip hop beats to the crowds. Mungo’s Hifi, Reggae Roast and Benny Page are amongst the other great masters of the decks lined up to perform.

The Sailor Jerry Mix Legend will be joined at the decks by a pro DJ, who will be on hand to give expert advice and tips on keeping the tent rocking. From funk, reggae and rockabilly to Latin and Caribbean sounds, the Sailor Jerry Mix Legend competition provides an opportunity for a music devotee to become a part of Sailor Jerry’s very colourful history.

Sailor Jerry is recognised as the founding father of tattoo design and flash art, following his innovative work in the 1930s which gained him cult status. Sailor Jerry was exposed to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia when he travelled on the high seas, before going on to design tattoos which reflect the devil may care attitude of men far away from home. He was an uncompromising individual, and he is widely regarded as the most influential tattooist of all time.

Alongside the music, visitors to the Sailor Jerry rum bar will be able to sample the classic, tasty Sailor Jerry rum serves including Jerry & ginger and Jerry & cola. There will also be a number of specially designed Sailor Jerry cocktails available throughout the weekend to tantalize the taste buds of thirsty music fans.
