Released this coming August 24th, Atlanta bubblegum-garage rockers Black Lips return with a new single that sees them teaming up with Faris Rotter from UK garage psych rock darlings The Horrors.
Pairing ‘Drugs’, first heard in March this year on Black Lips’ shamelessly lo-fi and lysergic ‘200 Million Thousand’ album, with a cover of their previous single ‘I’ll Be With You’ by Lumina, otherwise known as Faris Rotter from UK garage psych rock darlings The Horrors and Cherish Kaya, the single will be available on seven-inch vinyl and download and also features artwork from both bands.
Much like the unsolicited clip for previous album ‘Good Bad Not Evil’s’ ‘Bad Kids’ single – a sly piece of film that juxtaposed images from The Troubles in Northern Ireland with a counting-ball onscreen display of the song’s anarchic lyrics created by a fan of the band – ‘Drugs’ finds footage from the cautionary 70’s Health Class videos playing behind the band’s celebration of youthful hedonism.
Black Lips are also confirmed to play the following dates in the UK this August:
26/08/09 BRIGHTON CONCORDE 2 (w CRYSTAL ANTLERS)
28/08/09 READING FESTIVAL – FESTIVAL REPUBLIC STAGE
30/08/09 LEEDS FESTIVAL – FESTIVAL REPUBLIC STAGE
There will also be a secret show in London, date and venue to be announced closer to the time.
In further news, the band are August’s Topman Controllers and on the 26th of August they curate a gig through Topman Ctrl that features performances from The Big Pink, The Sticks and Three Vicars at Start The Bus in Bristol. For more information visit link
