Acoustical fans will find much to revel in here with James Yorkston’s sixth album worked together on with The Big Eyes Family Players. It’s as traditional as folk music can get and is likely to make a few more fans of the genre as it is to keep the devotees happy.
Encompassing 11 broad songs filling range and depth of field, the male lead takes the journey along as best he can, but it is the musician’s work that really stands out here. A decent folk vocalist is always handy, but when you have the music to really bend your ear then that’s when it really starts to work.
