Up and coming pop-rock act Red Light Company will go a long way to cementing their place in the mainstream pop realm with latest single ‘Meccano’. This catchy, well-constructed tune begins with an epic guitar riff intro. It then moves melodically into the first verse, complete with the call-and-response backing vocals that define the track throughout.
The song builds nicely to the chorus, which has sing-along anthem written all over it, with: “Cry it out loud, the weekend is over/ Push it out, there’s smiles to uncover”. Though ‘Meccano’ is not lyrically deep, it is an emotional outpouring of love and relationship angst, set to uplifting rock chords.
The track is at times sickening with it’s sugary lashings of synth-solos, though it is undeniably a well crafted song. Using a toy construction kit as inspiration Red Light Company may have built themselves a winner with ‘Meccano’.
