Trumpets and string music blare out like the Mexican circus about to hit town, but it’s all very playful in its earnest.
The acoustical and string element is heavy throughout the album, and although the vocals are in English it doesn’t disrupt the proceedings. Fans of mariachi bands might get a real kick out of this as the band try to bring a traditional type of music into the modern world, but only a step or two.
Thankfully there isn’t anything drastic about the music being updated that would make it sound completely wrong (Nothing much in the way of electronic sounds or dance beats). This then leaves it sounding traditional, and therefore easy to like or not.
