We are instructed to enjoy the groove in the opening of “I Am” the first song on this album. And for the most part is does feel quite groovy and enjoyable. Then a dark cloud fills the sky.
It is odd though that the music seems to be taking a backseat to the voice, as she doesn’t have the strongest voice, and it’s one that has been altered digitally (so something we could all have done).
The second track becomes a horrible mess of cliché lyrics then informing you to “Let the music take control” does seem very 15 years ago in the dance realms. And from here on out it is a very dated affair. Whilst you can appreciate the affection for the genre, it is one that is behind us. Being told to let music solve your problems and rhythms beat inside you and to take control on a regular basis inside one album gets a bit much and just highlights that NaRa’s biggest flaw and shortcoming is her song writing ability. This is someone who wants to just enjoy the party, and damn the substance to it all.
