Twin Atlantic – You’re Turning Into John Wayne

Wannabe Americans are put through the feisty folk flavoured rock grinder. This Sam McTrusty led Glaswergian quartet, captures the cynical bemusement and relaxed, yet scything vocal skip of Malcolm Middleton and the catchy rock leanings of The Hold Steady.

This song, taken from forthcoming mini-album ‘Lightspeed’, whilst being accessible could improve in the piercing poignancy stakes.

Skipping percussion interweaves with cyclical guitars to supply some heat and body to the instrumental. Mctrusty is able to slow down to a vocal dawdle when needed, to help the reflection and give extra impact to the steady climb towards the glidingly bemused chorus.

It is a well used formula that Twin Atlantic uses to jab at the copycat culture, but there is the lingering sense that the feelings expressed are genuine.
