Being my first conscious experience of listening to a song by The Used, I was intrigued. For some unknown reason, I had automatically granted them a certain level of credibility. I expected an ambitious and heavy song, that would be rewarding if I persevered with it.
Unfortunately, the reality was quite different. ‘Blood on My Hands’ is little more than a cleverly orchestrated blend of pop and metal, intended to be easy to digest while still packing a punch. The song is listenable, and will certainly be appreciated by followers of the band, however, it hardly inspires me to dig into The Used’s back catalogue, and I find nothing about the song that suggests the band has anything genuine to offer.
