'Send Me A Message' released 5th October, is the new single from The Brute Chorus. The quiffed and moustached 4 piece from Whitechapel are one of 2009'most exciting and intriguing new bands. The song is a glorious and brilliantly quirky slice of rockabilly with complex urgent arrangements and tempo changes.
A rickety folk-blues melody gives way to tango-influenced choruses and finally to a thudding tribal chant as The Brute Choir (Rosie Oddie from Rosie Oddie & The Odd Squad), Tallulah Randall, Loo Hull, Keith Austin (Captain Black/The Border Surrender), Johnny Lloyd (Operahouse) and Dan
Clews) join in with the chant of 'send me a message'. Lyrics are purloined from various folk tales, blues songs and even paraphrase Silent Night as the singer goes in search of the woman that only the night before had lain in his arms.
Their last two singles 'She Was Always Cool' and Œ
'All The Pilgrims'met with rave reviews and love from tastemakers such as NME, Steve Lamacq and Marc Riley as well as bloggers going mad for their unique brand of bluesy charms.
The band have made huge waves this year with sets at the likes of Secret Garden Party, Summer Sundae, Camden Crawl and The Great Escape. Their eponymous debut album (released 19th October 2009) was recorded in one take in front of a live audience at Camden's Roundhouse, a true testament to their amazing live shows.
