Delphic - This Momentary
Album Review

Delphic – This Momentary

Coming from Manchester is a bit of a blessing/curse for any new band. Comparisons to one, some, or all, of the city’s former greats are inevitable and with Delphic it’s New Order, which is quite valid – the pleasingly gentle emotional electro-rock with its bittersweet melodies does recall New Order, but there’s something very current about the sound of this single, a little Hot Chip, perhaps, just more straight-faced. Or the Klaxons on valium. The production is slick and there’s enough of a pop song under the shifting electro beats to give this a good shot at getting some serious airplay.

It feels like this would sound good in the dying throes of a sweaty indie disco, ambient and ethereal with a pulsing electro beat to keep you moving. There’s enough variety between the five different versions of the “This Momentary” that serve as b-sides to keep you from hitting stop, with an array of cool beats and effects stuck on to make for interesting interpretations.
