Foggy Notions Present No Age

No Age is a two-person American indie rock group consisting of guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Allen Spunt. Signed to Sub Pop records, they are one of Deerhunter's fave bands! Need any more kudos than that then you simply don't know who Deerhunter are! Get with it…

Anyway, Spunt (drummer/vocalist) and Randall’s (guitarist) live shows are an exploration of possibilities: a guitar laid over a resonating drum head, effect loops woven together like beautiful harmonies, pop songs as performance art, a duo that sounds like the gale force of rock history delivered through a wind tunnel. Sound poetic? It is… but in a trashy kind of way.

The pair’s powerful force, both as a band and individuals has reached such great heights as to inspire The New Yorker and The Los Angeles Times to examine No Age’s position in the underground scene surrounding the Los Angeles all-ages club The Smell (where for the past several years they have each volunteered in various capacities, including booking shows and running the soundboard). No Age have released two full-length albums, toured extensively in support of them, and are a strong advocates of the All-Ages Movement Project, an organization that connects youth to each other and the arts through independent music. Mmmm… Glasswerk likes this.

So what to expect from one of Deerhunter's fave groups? “Daydream Nation-era Sonic Youth, Kiwi pop, Power pop, My Bloody Valentine” (not as support – editor), and experimental lo-fi noise that will leave your ears tingling or numb, depending on the sound engineer.

“No Age is a band,” says Dean. “Bands should be fun and exciting and they should push all the buttons at the same time. They should make you feel like you are going to explode and make you utterly confused and inspired at the same time. At least they should.”

We couldn't agree more. No Age play Crawdaddy, Saturday Oct 24th. Tickets €13 plus booking fee from tickets.ie & City Discs available now. Doors 7.30pm.
