The Pod – Highlights for September

The Pod have a stellar line-up already confirmed for September, including eighties new-wave turned pop rock hit-makers The Blow Monkeys, Spencer Krug from Wolf Parade's beard-stroking friendly solo project Sunset Rubdown & prominent Californian Indie outfit The Whispertown 2000. Get your diaries and pens to the ready…

TUESDAY 8TH SEPT

THE BLOW MONKEYS

Crawdaddy / €15 & €20 / 8pm

Eighties pop heroes The Blow Monkeys are set to include Crawdaddy in their long-awaited comeback tour schedule this September. Twenty years after the zenith of such classics as “Digging Your Scene”, “It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way”, and “You Don’t Own Me”, Dr Robert and the gang reunited for the release late last year of a brilliant new album “Devil’s Tavern”, which was funded by pre-orders placed by the group’s ever enduring fan base.

SATURDAY 12TH SEPT

SUNSET RUBDOWN

Crawdaddy / €14 / 8pm

Experimental side project of Wolf Parade’s ascending king of Indie rock, Spencer Krug, Sunset Rubdown bring their sprawling prog-rock epics back to Dublin this September following their sublime show at Crawdaddy early last year. The Montreal quintet released their third full-band, full-length album “Dragonslayer” last month, the follow-up to the hugely acclaimed “Random Spirit Lover”.

“You need this.” 10/10. Drowned in Sound

SUNDAY 20TH SEPT

THE WHISPERTOWN 2000

Crawdaddy / €12 & €15 / 8pm

Hotly tipped & easy on the eye Indie folk outfit The Whispertown 2000 play their debut Irish show Sunday 20th September at Crawdaddy. The first signing to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’ Acony label, the LA quartet, fronted by Morgan Nagler, released their second album “Swim” last October to glowing reviews. Their lo-fi Indie is flavoured with antique country harmonies and touches of psychedelia, complimented exquisitely by Nagler’s addictive vocals. Sounds delicious to us…

Tickets for all shows are available from Ticketmaster, City Discs, Sound Cellar and usual outlets now.
