Newton Faulkner 'If This Is It'

Brit-nominated Newton Faulkner – the acoustic-guitar virtuoso returns with his eagerly anticipated second album ‘REBUILT BY HUMANS’ through RCA on 28st September 2009. The album is preceded by the instant-hit first single ‘If This Is It’ on 21th September 2009.

Newton also announces a must-see 14-date tour, which kicks off on Friday 9th October in Dublin and includes London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Tuesday 20th October.

‘REBUILT BY HUMANS’ is the follow-up to his debut album, the Number 1, million-selling ‘Hand Built By Robots’– which spent over 10 months inside the Top 40 Album Chart, and became one of the Top 20 Biggest Selling UK digital albums of all time, producing massive hit singles like ‘Dream Catch Me’, which spent an outstanding 43 Weeks in the Top 100.

There’s a good reason why Newton Faulkner’s second album is called ‘REBUILT BY HUMANS’. At the start of this year, the singer-songwriter broke his wrist in France and dislocated his entire right hand. Faulkner nearly lost the movement in his hand and after a series of painful procedures by French medics and a career saving operation at home in the UK, Newton was successfully rebuilt by humans and within days was back doing what he loves most, playing his guitar as taught by the legendary Eric Roche.

Produced by Mike Spencer, Newton Faulkner’s beautiful voice ranges from bluesy croon to falsetto howl and it hasn’t sounded better. First single ‘If This Is It’ was one of the earliest songs Newton wrote for the new album – a euphoric hymn to the joys of gigging. ‘If This Is It’ was written in a basement flat behind Harrods in Knightsbridge – a location chosen precisely because he knew no one who lived round there. He applied this limiting logic to the recording of ‘REBUILT BY HUMANS’ – recorded in a tiny room under the stairs at London’s Miloco studio, there was just enough room for Faulkner and Mike Spencer, and no distractions. And the results are phenomenal.

Newton says “I wanted to avoid the classic second album thing of complaining about how great things have gone and all the hard work. I had brilliant fun making this album, and hopefully it sounds that way. That’s another reason why If This Is It is great for the first single: hopefully it comes across as quite grateful. Because I am grateful”.

Thanks to the fans and to the doctors, Newton Faulkner is back –even if he may be part metal these days.
