SPLIT FESTIVAL is Sunderland’s new indie rock festival that aims to bring music fans from the whole region of the North East to Sunderland for the day. It offers people a chance to beat the post-Summer blues with a celebration of some of the city and the region’s finest bands. As well as the music there will be a cornucopia of other festival treats including magicians, stilt walkers, fire eaters, comedians, face painters and fireworks – a proper day of festivities.
Headlining the main stage and organising this one-day extravaganza are The Futureheads who have well and truly put their hometown on the musical map over the last few years. Joining them and co-organising SPLIT FESTIVAL are fellow Sunderland bands Field Music and Beak. The main stage will also feature short sets from the region’s up and coming comedians.
Other home-grown talent on the bill includes one of the UKs brightest new flames, Frankie and the Heartstrings (Sunderland) who are currently making major waves in the music industry, as well as ambient indie-rockers Sea of Glass (Sunderland).
Keeping it North East, the second stage will be curated by Narc Magazine and already on the bill are reformed punk-rockers Penetration (Ferryhill, County Durham), Coal Train (Sunderland), Milky Wimpshake (Newcastle), Jeans goes POP! (Newcastle),O’Messy Life (Sunderland), Sona Di + more to be announced.
