Emo/punk popsters You Me At Six unleash a track of pure teen-pop lust with latest single `Kiss and Tell’, bound to get the young girls squealing at alarming decibels. These cute-as-a-button pop kids are so clean cut they sparkle. Their sugary sweet bubble gum pop appeal gives punk a bad name. But if these boys are so clean and wholesome, then why do I feel so dirty listening to this song? Probably because I have fairly decent musical taste and I can recognise an over-produced, manufactured band molded by a record label trying to capitalise on the popular emo/punk movement that has made millions for the likes of Fall Out Boy, Sum 41 and My Chemical Romance.
Hailing from Weybridge, they are the UK’s answer to this Americanised genre, though unfortunately they do nothing original and make no attempt to call it their own. Bland, meaningless lyrics teamed with colour-by-numbers chord progressions and laden with so many hooks you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a Peter Pan convention – this track is bound to be a hit. But to be honest, all it did for me was make me feel nauseous.
