Florence Rawlings – A Fool In Love

It’s hard to believe Florence Rawlings is only 20. Her soulful, melodic vocals on first album A Fool in Love make her sound much older than her years. Londoner Florence’s passion of music has inspired her since she was just thirteen but it is only recently after completing her studies that she has released this album which is full of classics along with more obscure tracks that she’s transformed with her own interpretations. Also incorporated are new songs penned especially for her by songwriter and composer Mike Batt, such as the debut single Hard To Get.

Florence was discovered by Batt’s label Dramatico at the same time as Katie Melua so it’s no surprise that her album is packed with bluesy based tracks that showcase her gorgeous, soaring voice. Her cover of Gladys Knight’s Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me deserves a mention and shows just how talented she is as a modern, young soul singer to be able to resemble an artist of such a high calibre. Another fantastic track is the cover of Wouldn’t Treat a Dog which is uptempo and infused with bucketfuls of emotion that only someone with years of heartache could truly understand, yet Florence sounds like she means every single word.

If this album is anything to go by then Miss Rawlings is certainly one to watch for the future, a truly impressive young lady.
