New Boots is the second brilliant album from Irish singer-songwriter Wallis Bird. Full of acoustic, vibrant pop yet still soulful with hints of jazz, the album delivers an eclectic mix of tracks that make you feel warm and fuzzy whether you want to or not.
Wallis may only be 5″2 but she can belt out a tune. Storming opening track ‘Can Opener’ is full of attitude and showcases her massive voice. An extremely versatile young lady, every track sounds different from the gorgeous chilled out ‘Made Of Sugar’ to faster paced new single ‘To My Bones’. The change of rhythm for the track’s chorus and love of life lyrics make it destined to be a mass sing-a-long at her live shows. Shawn Colvin’s folk influence is prominent in ‘An Idea About Mary’; rocking ‘LaLaLand’ just needs to be turned up loud and ‘When We Kissed the World Fell In Love’ is a foot stomping, uplifting track full of Wallis’s traditional Irish roots.
She’s already supported Billy Bragg and Rodrigo Y Gabriela on tour and with so many stand-out tracks on such a dynamic album, this little lady is destined for huge things!
